“Want” is something that you desire to have in your life. It may or may not be your need. You may have all the necessities for a healthy and balanced life but sometimes you want something beyond your needs. That may be your yearning for something. You may like something and wish to have that. That is desire or want. The longing for the subject may add relief to your life or simply not. But, you will be glad to have that as an addition to your life. To summarize, I can say that want or desire is something additive to your comfort zone or service availabilities that would make you feel better and comfortable.

Knowing the difference between the two, you should also know the term competition. It is a kind of race between people for being superior to one another. This superiority complex sometimes leads others to starvation. There’s no end to desires and wishes. If one of the wishes fulfills, the person makes another one and so does it continue till his death. Life is the name of cravings, cravings of this and that. Cravings for needs and desires.

Sometimes, needs and wants collapse or they merge. It means that if you have a certain desire to have something, it may be your need too. Your struggles and desires are the basics of your living. So, sometimes needs and wants are the one thing for you. For example, you may want a house that would provide you shelter and refuge from everything hazardous. Maybe your current house is not a safe one or maybe you have not a house at all. You will desire to have a house that will protect you properly from rains, animals, and other disasters. This is the point where evolution starts. And this is the point where needs and wants are one thing together. But, if you possess a good house and see some house luxurious and beautiful than yours, you will have that too which is purely your desire. Here the competition starts and the demand for advancement in technology, services, and society.
